After reading our article “Digital learning during the pandemic” by Ms. Poulabi Chakraborty (https://lokenatheducation.com/blog/25/), few students were enthusiastic enough and voiced their opinion on Online Education and Digital Learning. Here’s some snippets of their thought – we have to admit, their comments are no joke, believe it or not!

HERE’S WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY..

Rupsa Khan, Shree Agrasain College B.A (Eng) (University of Calcutta)

“As the saying goes ‘something is better than nothing’ I feel online education
serves the same, a provisional solution for classes instead of no class.

Human is a social animal and will be more interested in direct class rather than online class followed by a lack of enthusiasm. The social interaction between a teacher and the students is not quite possible through a screen. The teacher in this mode of learning cannot analyze the students and bring out their weak points. There is a lack of self-assessment as the student is not in a regular class and cannot assess his drawbacks. Without a consistent internet connection for both sides there can be a lack of continuity. Too much of screen time can give certain physical problems like bad posture or sight problems.

Nevertheless, it can only be said that online education helps in completing a certain course but does not contribute to the cognitive development of a student.”

Mayukh Chatterjee, Aspiring Entrepreneur, Ex- BESC

“Well, to start with the style of education varies for different age group. A kid is studying in class 2 his way is completely different from a class 9 student. But yeah as we all know it’s all indulging into good habits and practice.

Now, online education is really an impressive step towards the improvement of one’s knowledge. It saves up the time where the child can do some other activities. Also, it gives easy access to notes and books so that children can find what they are looking for just with a click. Furthermore, with the examination pattern being changed and adjusted towards the digital world has brought up new possibilities with new ways.

So as there are these good sides of online education we should keep in mind about the disadvantages as well. It hurts the eyes and brings down a mental fatigue for children as well as adults. Also, there are people who cannot even afford to have a phone with proper specifications for good video service and smooth access into apps. Well the major sad part is if the whole schooling pattern rely on going online, then they are mistakenly killing the school life time of a child at least according to me every child should get an opportunity to witness the school life where they study, practice, socialize, learn about the world, make new habits and a lot more.

To conclude with I think Online Education is an excellent move but keeping the limitations in mind if things can be tweaked in a different way than a lot of good things might be waiting.”

Ria Verma, Class 12th, Allen Career Institute

“Online education has its own pros and cons.  While some take it as a step of development, others exploit it.

Being a student myself I’ve experienced the benefits of it. But there are also some issues that we have to face on a day to day basis. Teachers are taking classes longer than the average time of offline classes. This sometimes results into stress for students. Meanwhile, it also helps us cover a vast portion of syllabus on time. But due to the stress and exhaustion, students have started neglecting the classes. Only if the communication with the teachers and schools were better at this point of time, things could’ve been easier.

I personally feel stressed due to excess load of work every day which also results in me getting tired during classes and losing focus.”

  1. One of the most oft-used terms after the pandemic is the term “new normal.” The new normal in education is the increased use of online learning tools. I think this pandemic will totally transform education. Most of the things we found to be impossible have now proven to be possible. Who would have thought we could have pre-defense online?
Hopefully, in the future, when a student cannot attend a class, write an exam, or present his/her thesis, we will give them an equal opportunity to do so, using what we have learnt in time of this pandemic. Going forward, I see a rise in online education that can increase efficiency and expand outreach.
