Presently, the education system in our country has undergone an evolution since the time of its commencement, right from the British era, and has presently taken a shape that’s been accepted by all. The grading system is accepted by the present education system as an inherent part. There are a few advantages of the grading system and that might be an example to lead by.

  • The student understands where he actually stands:  The motto of the grading system is largely to evaluate the knowledge and skills of the students. When an examination is conducted it’s a measure of evaluation of the knowledge of the kids.
  • Scope of improvement:  Well, the marks and grades are mainly to identify the scope of improvement. When a student scores relatively poor marks, then there is a room for improvement always.
  • A standard of evaluation: The grading system and evaluation are mainly to categorize a group of students who are strong in certain areas. Their strength and weakness are evaluated in the form of the grading system.

Is the grading system a motivating factor?

Well, the grading system can be regarded as a motivating factor for some students. Often the parents and guardians hold a grudge against this system. The various curriculum like CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE, and IB have their own modes of evaluation. While some believe that grades cannot really define the quality of a student, some college admission criteria are based on grades and other methods of evaluation.

While the system of grading and evaluating has been quite traditional, the process of evaluation in terms of grades has been considered the right benchmark. The aim for any learner is to score the highest in terms of the present gradation. The evaluation system should be ideally based on a student’s class performance, and also the exam. The overall performance all over the year should be taken as standard and a percentage of score to be based on that.

Well, there might not be a way to escape from this gradation system, but of course, a student’s capability could be something beyond this system and traditional benchmarking.
