The Colonial rulers invaded our country and changed some of the infrastructures, including the introduction of a foreign language originating from Great Britain. Yes, English has been the official language and a means of communication that the world has accepted. Instead of having accepted the local language of each country, let English win the show- that was the idea behind all. Mastering the language was a tactful issue and the introduction of English across the country at the primary level proved to be a revolution. The country still lags efficient teachers across the remotest villages. The result is that some students still feel that not knowing the language could be a barrier on their road to success.

English is not my mother tongue. So is it my fault?

Not knowing the language cannot be a parameter where people could be far from being successful. Maradona, considered the God of football, never knew English. He delivered his speech with the help of a translator. Putin, a political leader from Russia is quite famous for his strategies to handle any of his country’s enemies. When the leader speaks to the media he is not confident in English but speaks in his mother tongue. Sachin Tendulkar, the God of cricket holds an all-time high score in the number of runs but is a weak speaker. His lack of knowledge of the language never made him lesser famous as a cricketer. Jack Ma, the Chinese businessman, and philanthropist, owner of Alibaba, never knew good English but yet was a very successful personality in his profession. The most celebrated Indian politician of India, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, basically conquered the world with very scarce knowledge of English. Kapil Sharma, being the most successful TV star and host of a popular program in India, never knew good English, yet is too successful in his career. These are some instances where not knowing proper English was never a barrier in creating the success line of these people. 

How do I cope with my low knowledge of English?

There might be certain cases that you are improving upon yourself on the language and trying to master it, but you are too late to go to school. Then, there might be certain options where you can learn the language and be expertise to some extent so as to solve the purpose.

• Get into special coaching classes: There could be special English coaching classes where you can seek admission and get good training to excel for a purpose.

• Get the help of an interpreter: in case you are moving somewhere without having the minimum knowledge of the language you better write your own speech and then ask your interpreter to read it aloud for the rest of the people present.

• Get the aid of teaching apps:  There is various teaching apps present and those would help you learn the language well. You may get those applications installed in your gazette and then start learning well.

There is no harm in not knowing a language and also no shame associated with the fact in case you are weak in expressing a foreign language. There are certain rules imposed for the purpose of communication at the International level. If you can achieve it, that’s appreciated. Else, if you can’t there is always a scope for improvement. But, not knowing a foreign language well cannot be a cause of embarrassment- a cause that we as a society is trying to overcome.
