As a personality trait, confidence is sometimes referred to as self-confidence. This term describes the attitudes and beliefs people hold regarding their abilities and strength. Psychologically we can define that, confidence is a person’s belief that a chosen course of action is the right choice and that they can properly perform. As a noun, it means full trust, belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability of a person or thing. Someone’s ability, success, belief in his/ her self, his/her powers, self-confidence, self-confidence self-reliance, assurances are collectively we can say ‘confidence’ lack of all of this defeated him/her.

Confidence or self-efficacy is built by experiencing achievement, not through hollow glorification. Confident people grew up with a realistic appraisal of their abilities and thus knew where they stood.
There are some causes due to what a higher standard student lack his/her confidence.

  • It may include his/her unhappy childhood where parents or other care giving person, who can be family member, teacher etc. were extremely critical.
  • It may include poor academic performance in school, resulting lack of confidence.
  • Ongoing stressful life events such as relationship breakdown or financial trouble.
  • It may also include some abusive incidents which was very shocking to the victim at the time of happening.

Self-confidence enables students to handle setbacks with ease. Instead of being crippled by failure, resilient children get up quickly, learn from their mistakes, and try to do the work again and again. They accept that “failure is the first step to success” and it is a part of life, and take more chances. As a result it makes them even more successful later in life.

People who have high levels of self confidence may feel sure that they will achieve what they set out to do. And maintain a steady sense of control over their lives. Self confident people generally trust in their abilities, their power, and their judgement. They may feel comfortable to their ability to perform well in a variety of life tasks and experience less anxiety and self-doubt than people with low self-confidence.

There are some factors that affect our self-confidence from childhood. Rather, these factors gradually decrease our self-confidence. It can be childhood misunderstands, societal unexpected incidents, media, spirituality, misbehaviors from friends and family, breaking of relationships at teen age, peer environment, and the most important health issues.

Now coming to the point that how we can increase and boost our self-confidence.

  • At first, we have to look at things objectively. Try to forget your painful past and assess your current relationships. Focus on that subjects which your encouragement, i.e. you love to learn.
  • Quite comparison to anyone. Promote yourself to a positive mindset. Recall your progression again and again. Remind yourself that you are not a superhuman. Mistakes can happen, and it’s a very normal phenomenon. We have to rectify our mistakes and should keep going on.
  • Recognize your value outside of school and college. Question your inner critic. Try to visualize and affirm yourself as you want to be. Set yourself up to win.
  • Take care of yourself and help someone else. Do not think that disturb you everyday. T

  1. Self confidence grows gradually.
    It depends on the way of learning pattern…. (positive side as well as negative side with reason).
    The duty of guardian is to inject the
    learning pattern to their baby from
    the beginning of student life.
    Then it will be easier to grow the self confidence in every one’s life from childhood.
