Boosting self-confidence ..

Confidence is soundless and fresh, insecurities are shrill and insensate. This self-reliance and determination are gained and acquired more by practice rather than by theoretical studies. Success, competence to complete a project and confidence are all co-related. A confident mind will change one’s behaviour and changes in behaviour will certainly have a positive outcome. In today’s world when everything in life is volatile, uncertain and capricious, one has to face and accept failure and disappointment fearlessly and see that a person can face more arduous challenges of life. Confidence helps in building strong character traits as even a reclusive person can change to one of the most gregarious and affable personalities.

Confidence in a person grows and comes with the work over some time. Confidence increases his self-esteem, works as a great morale booster and certainly helps in reducing stress. The person must be assured of his power to work and deliver, his worth, his capabilities and his leadership qualities. One can gauge whether a person is confident or not when one is convinced about the person’s self-awareness,  calmness, composure and self-assurance.

Lack of confidence —– typical signs

  1. Taking everyone’s responsibilities on one’s shoulders and very seldom declining.
  2. Always assessment about negative outcomes even if nothing untoward has happened.
  3. Frightened and repulsive attitude always.
  4. Introvert and often feeling shy unnecessarily.
  5. Always be critical about yourself and acknowledge faults even if they have not been committed.
  6. Underestimating oneself.
  7. Taking blame on their head even if they have committed no wrong.
  8. Always feeling unsure of themselves.

Ways of boosting self-confidence

Although there are professional counsellors and physicians to take stock of the situation, boosting self-confidence with the help of one’s willpower is most welcome. Taking control of one’s self-esteem is more important than taking external help.

Here are certain ways to enhance one’s self-confidence. Although these are not the ultimate, they can yield positive results

  1. Positive thinking — Right at the onset one has to be positive-minded and must think that the result, be it anything, from a  project in the office or a social function at home, will be smooth sailing and everything will be just as fine in the end.
  2. Shun negative thoughts – A negative thought is retarding and will not lead to the desired result at all. Plain procrastination with no base is indeed a sheer waste of time and energy.
  3. Grooming – Personal grooming and having a good dress on with a nice shave and a well-orchestrated profile means a lot and will go a long way to boosting self-confidence.
  4. Honest self-appraisal – Whatever the person is, he or she must accept the ground facts. One cannot disengage oneself and should understand that every personality has got both positive and negative traits. One has to cultivate positive traits and must think of obtaining the desired objectives.
  5. Talk to friends and relatives – If you are entrusted with any project and you find it difficult to get going, talk to your friends and close relatives, seek their support, take them into confidence and get their valuable advice after weighing the pros and cons.
  6. Do not have an imposter syndrome —  Imposter syndrome is a negative thought when one thinks that however sincerely one might work to achieve certain objectives, his achievements will never be fully acknowledged by his bosses. This will never give a mental boost to achieve the desired results. It is important to get out of this mental block.
  7. Adjusting one’s posture — It is not without reason that our elderspoint us to sit straight or to walk down with the head held high instead of crouching. Walking straight or sitting straight can be a very good confidence booster exercise.
  8. Face the most challenging jobs first — It is always better to face the most uncomfortable job right at the onset of doing any project. Once you get past the hurdle, automatically your confidence level will shoot up. 

And always keep this in mind —- lack of confidence will nurture a sense of uncertainty and lack of self-belief in yourself, which, in the long run, will maim the growth in personal life and work.
