November 30, 2021 , Advantages of digital education……..
This article is contributed by Mr. Sugato Roy
Until about two years back, up to March 2020, any common man thought that purchasing and going through educational CDs and accessing study links in the student’s mail ID is all that what digital education means. COVID 19 and the new normal scenario where people came to terms with an unknown word called “lockdown “ changed the course of education. All educational institutions and organisations offering tutorials for various competitive examinations as well as tutorials for normal school classes and career advancement courses ground to a complete shutdown. The students and their guardians, mainly the commoners had never experienced anything like this ever or heard about such a situation. This is where the terms digital education and digital learning made a foray into the studies and living rooms of our country. Almost with a bang, digital education coupled with well-known platforms for online classes became the talk of the town.
Digital education can be described as technology-enhanced education which is facilitated by various hi-tech digital educational tools and downloading of apps for group classes where several participants and students can join in. The pandemic and the successive periods of lockdown have seen the phenomenal growth of digital education and learning where the traditional model of education has taken a back seat for the time being. Any student of today is fully aware of terms like Zoom meeting, Google Meet, Skype, Google Hangouts, Webex and other online platforms which were unfamiliar even two years ago. The basic items that a student or a digital education learner would require are a laptop or a desktop, an Android mobile handset and either of these three items will be sufficient. From the instructor, tutor or the institution side, the appropriate digital content, coupled with the latest technology, instructions and the teachers are more than enough.
Indeed digital education has more than revolutionised the core of the educational system globally as well as in India. Almost all educational institutions, career advancement centres, preparatory institutions are into digital education today in a large way and even examinations have been conducted digitally online.
Internet today is a part of life be it in urban, semi-urban and rural areas. Internet connection is more of a necessity today rather than a luxury. The role of the internet will be more significant in the days to come and it is imperative therefore that the students brace themselves up with digitalisation.
Infinite information – Digital education has opened a plethora of knowledge for all. No longer it is required to go to the libraries for browsing through the various books to gather knowledge. One can simply go through an ocean of information about the particular subjects that the student would like to acquire with the click of the mouse.
Smarter and updated student community – Digital education will enable a student to reach newer levels of information and knowledge. The student can upgrade himself regularly as to what all is happening in the world around him. Thorough and regular up-gradation in today’s world will help a student enhance his potentiality and competence.
Two way focussed learning process – In the previous traditional system of classroom consisting of at least 30 to 40 pupils, a teacher could not effectively gauge how much a particular student is grasping the subject. Individual or focussed attention towards the weaker students was not that possible. A weaker student after a considerable period will not be in sync with his other classmates. Not so in digital education where the personalised focus by the concerned tutor or teacher is very much possible which is beneficial for the student himself.
Content can be recapitulated – Today in any digital education class, almost all the contents are recorded. Unlike the traditional method, the student can access the link through his password and can gain an entire recap of the particular class or syllabus of that period if he has missed anything.
One can conclude confidently that digital education has firmly ensconced our life to a large extent.
