Let’s begin with a tiny story today. One day, a teenage boy goes to buy some schoolbooks at a nearby store. As the shopkeeper goes into another room to find his books, he casually lifts a copy from the bookshelf on the left and starts flipping the pages. He reads the first few lines in an indifferent mood, when suddenly the story strikes him hard with an urge to know what happens next. He reads further and finally ends up not only buying the book but also the sequels. That’s what reading does: it opens up new worlds full of excitement and suspense where even the deeper truths are told in the simplest manner. In today’s internet craving, web-series watching world, books have been sidelined by the youth pathetically. However, books are irreplaceable, despite the threat of the easily available means of entertainment. From romance to sci-fi, adventure to psycho-social thriller- books have it all. A reader just needs to choose according to his choice! Reading is like exploring. So, a beginner must start the journey with books that are easy to read and from different genres. Here goes a list of 5 such insanely readable books:-

  1. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K Rowling: The Harry Potter Book series can undoubtedly be termed as the epitome of fantasy fiction. The wizard world of Harry Potter takes the reader into a magical reality and it’s difficult to come out. These books startled the generation with a power play of suspense, excitement and emotion and are still continuing to do so. Once a reader begins the first book, the seventh and final book is only a few eye-blinks away!
  • The Shiva Trilogy by Amish Tripathi: Throughout the three books- The Immortals of Meluha, The Secret of the Nagas and The Oath of the Vayuputras, Amish Tripathi breaks and recreates lord Shiva as a fascinating war hero and a loving family man who became godlike and mythical by the ordinary humans. No wonder, Amish is today one of the most favourite authors of the youth of India!
  • The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini: One of the best books penned by the philosophical Khaled Hosseini, this is a serious read that makes the reader think of the past and how it influences the present, the life and the soul. It is a story of secrets and regrets and everlasting friendships.
  • The Nine Chambered Heart by Janice Pariat: Who doesn’t love, love stories? But gone are the days of Romeo and Juliet. Janice Pariat’s The Nine Chambered Heart is a staple of modern-day relationships wherein love is hard to find and even harder to maintain. The novel contains nine stories told from the perspectives of nine persons who loved the same woman at different points of time. Interestingly, no time, year, age, sex or place is mentioned in the stories. Easy to read and easier to connect with, this book is a must read for a beginner.
  • Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami: A tale of lost love and unfolding mystery, this is a brilliant book by the famous Japanese writer Haruki Murakami. Once someone begins reading any of Murakami’s novels, the urge to read the rest from his pandora’s box becomes difficult to resist!
